Mr. Wiersma

I'm not sure if I understand this quote. If what he is saying is true then the statement itself is only half true, which in turn would make it wholly untrue. Is he saying that their are no absoloute truths in the world? If so then again the statement must also include itself which would make it completely false because it is trying to establish itself as an absolute.

If this is not what he is saying please help me to understand.

Thank you.

Alfred Whitehead was an English Mathametician and philosopher (1861 - 1947). He wrote on algebra, logic, foundations of mathmematics, philosophy of science, metaphysics, and education. The power of quotations it that they can be sign posts that point us toward truths whether or not they themselves are truths. Truth is shrouded and layered. Truth is often found in the simplicity that lies beyond complexity. Truth is found in parable, paradox and oximoron. And, truth is colored by understanding, experiience, and perception. On a personal level, one person's truth is another person's lie. On a metaphysical level one could also ask whether the human mind is capable of understanding absolute truth...

Gotta love them quotes!
